Kathryn A. Chandler Fine Art
As a child her favorite pass times were drawing, coloring and painting. She was strongly influenced by very creative parents and her paternal grandmother who was a portrait artist and porcelain china painter. Kathryn did not however, pursue a career as an artist, and chose a more stable career as a banker. All the while the artist in her kept calling. She took up amateur photography as an outlet for capturing the beautiful things of nature, but it was not enough. Because of a wonderful color and design sense, she designed interiors of homes for friends. It was still not enough. she looked on enviously as her sister became a successful artist and illustrator.
Finally at the tender age of 52, Kathryn started to paint. In 1999, she picked up the oil paints and brushes, started painting, and has not stopped yet. She started studying under Nanette Davis and Ruth Brown from Studio One in Oakland California. She saw her talent bloom. When she moved with her husband to Carlsbad California she started studying at Watts-Atelier in Encinitas, California. she has been strongly influenced by Jeffrey Watts and his father Robert Watts, as well as the many talented artists at the school. Painting and sketching has become a passion.
Kathryn paints mostly landscapes from her studio and on location. Her favorite mediums are oils and gouache. She believes "Art touches the human spirit. In each piece, I am exposing myself to a total stranger which can be frightening and exhilerating at the same time. But, to share the experience and see the appreciation through someone else's eyes is worth it. When someone loves a piece enough to buy it, well, it is the ultimate compliment." She hopes you enjoy her work and that any purchase you make provides you with years of enjoyment.
Kathryn is currently represented at Galleria Incognita in Carlsbad, California, C.O.A.L. Gallery of Carlsbad, Off Track Gallery of Encinitas, and recently was juried into the La Jolla Art League in March of 2002.
